Augmented Reality Map Mailer of UT Austin sent to 70,000 prospective students annually.

Background

Texas Immersive Institute was tasked to have UT Austin stand out from the pack of colleges all clawing for the attention of digital-first 17-18 year olds. We were also asked to share the story of what it's like to be a Longhorn - from living on campus, to the academic experience, to the long-lasting traditions and history of the 40 Acres. After our experience, prospective students should be able to envision campus life and be confident if UT Austin is the right choice for them

The Map Mailer

Our AR Map Mailer is the first component of the 3-part Be a Longhorn experience. The mailer is sent out to students' homes, where they are asked to scan a QR code to bring the artistic map of UT Austin to life.

Through image targeting, we've chosen some of the most iconic spots in the 40 acres to pop off the map for prospective students to explore through 360 video, photo collage, and face effects. We also made sure to introduce our audience to UT's mascot, BEVO, who is the helping hand throughout the Be a Longhorn experience.

The journey rests in the user's lap. They have the option to explore:

  • Jester Hall
  • Darrell K Royal Stadium
  • The Six Pack
  • The Tower

Once students have explored all the map has to offer, BEVO invites them for an in-person tour- leading to the second component of the Be a Longhorn experience: The AR Tour.
