How does retail adapt in the age of isolation?

Physical retail was one of the hardest hit sectors of the marketplace during the pandemic. As shopping habits shifted online, it created a challenge with getting products in the hands of consumers, especially items for children.

With no/low touch restrictions varying wildly from region to region, one of the most cherished childhood experiences (roaming aisles of your favourite toy store and letting your imagination run wild) was effectively eliminated.

THE ASK

Focusing on Paw Patrol and Monster Jam, Spin Master's request was simple: How can AOS deliver an innovative yet playful experience into the hands of consumers across North America — without actually having to touch product?

Create an opportunity for fans of all ages to get closer to their favourite characters, especially at curbside. Let them experience it from any smartphone while in their vehicle, at home — while anywhere.

Paw Patrol

We wanted to bring as much of the experience of watching Paw Patrol to life for kids, so we let Chase jump into real life by taking a ride down the giant slide in the actual show. Once he dropped into place, kids could solve cases along side him, triggering an action where he inquisitively sniffs the ground while on the hunt for clues.

Monster Jam

For Monster Jam, we wanted to bring as much of the live excitement of seeing the iconic Grave Digger to this experience as possible. With our virtual 1:1 replica model in place, we worked on creating interactions worthy of a monster truck experience. With the Grave Digger in their hands, they could listen to the crowd and the sounds of the engine revving as they watched it do donuts and the famous Grave Digger Moonwalk.

The Results

We helped SpinMaster activate in a world where retail purchasing was all but uncertain, proving the value of this technology as an awesome tool in the marketing arsenal.

In the end, we delivered a frictionless, end to end experience for two of the toy world's hottest brands — scalable to hundreds of retail locations across North America.
