PBS, BBC and bully! Lets Users Walk with Dinosaurs
WebAR activation is triggered through QR codes in museums and on broadcast

PBS, BBC and bully! teamed up on a prehistoric experience that shows one of augmented reality’s most fascinating powers, time travel! Life-size dinosaurs from the past, including the Triceratops and T. Rex, were brought into the present and placed in the space in front of users made possible with web-based AR.
The Walking with Dinosaurs WebAR experience debuted at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in New York City, where signage with QR codes brought users to the experience. There, the users could choose between the dinosaurs and place them into their space. Options to capture photos and videos make it easy to share the Jurassic encounter with friends and family.
The experience is also available as part of a QR code bumper in the TV broadcast of the year-long rollout of the show of the same name on both PBS and BBC. Whereas in the museum the WebAR experience brings to life the dinosaurs which sat inanimate and frozen in time in the museum, the QR code on screen during the show extends the content from the flat screen to the user’s space, adding a real-time interactive element to the experience.
The sharing capability within the experience was critical to the success of this AR activation. It allows for users to take pictures and video with the high fidelity dinosaurs alongside friends, family or themselves and easily share them on social meda or messaging.
bully! used 8th Wall to create an accessible, shareable extension of the beloved Walking with Dinosaurs franchise that would engage both museum visitors and home audiences.
